Tears streamed down my face as I read this beautiful article on praising kids with autism ..LOL can barely type now as they keep falling. Thank you to Tammy, God Bless you for sharing your son with us, your life with us. Your a wonderful Mom with a wonderful child! My own son is my hero who amazes me by his loving heart and strides accomplished in all he has been through and goes through. I am blessed with him, a precious gift of God so special in every way. Raising him is most difficult but most rewarding! My son is 8 and we struggle together with severe ADHD and highly functional broad spectum autism.
I have been working on my wholesale Bible website and new Bible blog non-stop for 3 days. Let me tell ya, I would have been much better off had I read this first! My son is the type who soaks up any kind of attention begging for more. The more time I spend with him, play with him, teach him, or even disipline him, the more he hungers for it. He just can’t get enough. So when I am working on projects that take more of my time than usual for a single Mom, self employed, online Bible distributor, well my boy becomes a wild child. As I stopped to feed him, read instructions for his workbooks, or explore his room with him for a new twist of playing with his favorite toys, Sam would grasp at ways to stall me from going back to my work. The sheer knowledge that all too soon for him I would be back at it, engrossed in thought, staring at my laptop, typing away was just too much for him to handle. I can’t count the times I fussed, asking him why he was misbehaving so much while I was trying to work AND help him too. Had I done the same things but said much different things to him like you have mentioned we both would have been happier! I am definitely going to write down a special praise Samuel list for extra busy work days. Thanks again Tammy at http://www.autismlearningfelt.com/ for sharing! Prayers for you, your son and family!
