Going by Faith, A Christian Blog By Jennifer Johns that I read often.  I don’t usually recommend a blog with an entire article but Going By Faith is well worthy of reading.   Jennifer is a lovely Christian Lady that I do not personally know but for our Sisterhood in Christ.    LEARN MORE ABOUT     Therefore we are Family in the LORD and I believe you will be as blessed as I am to be a reader of her Christian blog. Nearly 25,000 visitors   Many of the Bible based articles at Going By Faith have spoken to me, helped me, and fed me.  Just a little while ago though I was touched not only by Sister Johns post but deeply by the Holy Spirit too!  Her latest Bible post about verses that speak to us and how the Bible transforms our lives. OH the POWER of God’s Word!  Her post spoke of remebering where we were and how God changed us.  This brought me back to my BIRTHDAY!! The Lord is good to those who depend on him,
to those who search for him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.

I am a born again Christian and love the LORD JESUS. I was a troubled teen and was sent to an independant fundamental baptist home and ACE school: New Bethany Home for Wayward girls in Arcadia, Louisiana back in the mid 1980s. I saw lots of things I have buried deep inside and that I still cannot remember. I do know I conformed as to not get beat. Many could not and many did not. I have many friends that were locked up there at New Bethany under Mack Ford or in homes like it that survived horrid terrible abuses. I was one of the lucky ones. Your child especially if completely out of control will not be!
Parents if your teen is in trouble, if you can not control them PLEASE before you send them off to a so called “christian” home, ranch or school PLEASE read up online about the abuse, rape, deaths and many other hidden things these homes do in the name of God. If they have to stay for a year RED ALERT! If they can only talk to you once a month, RED ALERT. If you can not visit your own child RED ALERT!!! If you cannot go and tour the place with your child BEFORE making a decision of leaving them RED ALERT. They will tell you this is a tried and true way of rehabilitation. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. Be sure you are able to freely ask YOUR pick of the residents there any questions. Find the one who looks the saddest and ask them what is going on! They have certain girls who will say what they have been told and have learned to do so or else, so be selective! Call the local authorities and ask how long this home has been in town. If they just arrived find out where they moved from because they are running from being closed down. If they have been there for a while ask about any complaints.

Welcome to Survivors of New Bethany

This is a place for those girls and boys who were subjected to New Bethany and survived to vent, chat, compare notes and basically share whatever you wish.

It is also a place for anyone who wishes (for whatever reason) to have a better understanding of what we went through and how we have dealt with/continue to deal with the fallout.

For me New Bethany was a nightmare. One I couldn’t escape even after I left it. I spent the better part of 15 years running from it. I’m tired of running. My fondest hope is to reconnect with those I have lost who shared this experience with me, and that in communicating with others who know and understand…we’ll all find it easier to deal with.

We are a group of Survivors. We all have our stories, both of then and now. We are all seeking healing and closure on this painful time in our lives.

While New Bethany is (supposedly) officially closed, there are still other places like it operating throughout this country.

We want the truth to be brought to light about what really goes on behind closed doors both at New Bethany and others like it, so that future generations will not have to endure the same torture we did, nor suffer the painful after effects that we are still fighting ourselves.

But the Rev. Mack Ford, a former missionary who founded New Bethany in 1971, has repeatedly tried to keep child abuse investigators and fire inspectors away, saying state officials oppose the school’s fundamentalist religious approach and want to shut it down.

Now Ford is trying to further insulate the school by seeking a federal court order that would make it more difficult for state social workers to make unannounced school visits. Ford also is seeking at least $250,000 in damages.

A judge threw out his federal civil rights lawsuit in December, but Ford filed an appeal expected to be heard this summer by 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

“State bureaucrats are poking their noses into matters which they have no business asking questions about,” said Ford’s lawyer, John Hodge. “The teachings of New Bethany may be unorthodox to many, but we contend that New Bethany has a right to hold and to teach these matters.”

Lawyers for the state worry that Ford might win an injunction prohibiting visits by social workers and interviews with students about child abuse complaints.

“We’re not harassing them,” says Henry Bernstein, an assistant attorney general. “We’re just doing what we’re supposed to do.”

Ford didn’t respond to repeated requests for an interview and a tour of the school in rural Bienville Parish.

Longstreet, Louisiana (Closed 1981)
Walterboro, South Carolina (Closed 1984) [1]
Arcadia, Louisiana (Closed ?) [2] [3]
They were shut down after claims of abuse [4].

They were run by the couple Mack and Thelma Ford [5].

The Arcadia facility closed in 1992 [2], but reopened some year later. They battled the authorities not allowing fire inspections which could ensure the safety of the detained teenagers but lost in court [6].

……..ROBERTS: But the Grises have no recent photos. Last December the child went
to see his father and never came back.

This summer the Grises found out the boy’s dad had sent him to a
fundamentalist Christian boy’s home in rural Louisiana.

CHARLENE GRISE: We’ve seen pictures of it. Has barbed wire fences that are
really high. It looks like a prison. It doesn’t look like a school. It looks
like a prison. In the picture… ROBERTS: It’s a place the Grises were told
they can’t visit or even speak to their nephew on the phone.

CHARLENE GRISE: Matthew is not allowed to communicate with anyone. We were
told that we could write letters only through his father’s house, and they
censor everything, basically his father does, and the school does.

And Matthew could only send a letter through his father’s house. We’re not
able to talk to him directly.

ROBERTS: Matthew Grise never really knew his father, who left Colorado when
he was a little boy. He lived alone with his single mother Elizabeth. After
her death from cancer, he moved in with his aunt and uncle.

The Grises say the boy adjusted well and got near straight A’s in school.
Last December his dad Vincent Russo contacted the Grises about letting
Matthew come to Missouri for a Christmas visit.

After the holidays, Russo phoned to say his son wanted to stay with him.

But according to the Grises the boy clashed with his father’s strict
fundamentalist Christian views.

This summer, says Payson Grise, the child’s father sent Matthew to the New
Bethany Baptist Church Home for Boys outside Arcadia, Louisiana.

PAYSON GRISE: We have an honor student who left this state, lived not that
long of a time with his father and his father’s wife, and then ended up
inside of a children’s prison. It just isn’t right and we got to do
something about it……

These are just a few! If you are a Christian and you love your child, PRAY before making a mistake that will haunt your child for thier entire life. There are other alternatives!

God has called ministers to the mission field of America, Praise God for our home missionaries!
He may be a chaplain that serves in the slums of Los Angeles, maybe one who ministers to soldiers.
She may work with homeless women or orphan kids in Mississippi, or they may serve elderly in
homes left alone and sick by family in New York. Perhaps, they help disaster victims across our country.
Or maybe they are home missionaries to prisoners in Louisiana.

Our own Missionaries here often go unnoticed by the local church,
local body of Christ and those right there around them as they faithfully
sacrifice many comforts as they serve.
Yet look at the millions reached right in our own big cities and small towns.
We may not notice these warriors of Jehovah.
Yet like all missionaries, they are reaching so many people that would otherwise may
never hear the very message we all long to give them:
“Jesus Christ is so in love with you. He died on the cross for your sins for my sins.
He changed my life and healed my hurting heart, and Jesus can change your life too.
Let Him have your heavy burden and make you a new creation ”

AMEN a celebration in Heaven for precious souls added in the family of God.
This IS our home Mission Field:
our own backyards, schools, jails, rehabs, gangs, homeless, abused, abandoned…
right here America!

There are so many of those who minister to prisoners, a dark American culture that most
of us simply cannot fathom.
Prisons, jails and gangs have a dangerous world of their own making –
their own leaders, loyalties, rules and traditions.
Outsiders especially Christians risk much going into places where they at first are not wanted.
Yet God moves and saves so many. Most never have a Bible.
Like all missionaries, that are solely supported by gifts and offerings
who never receive a salary from a prison, a government allowance or get paid
any where at all they need help.
There is a major lack of support and knowledge in the US for our US missionaries!
Most rely solely upon the church community and individual Believers,
on ME, on YOU, on us to support their ministry work.
I think the lack of support for true Godly American Missionaries has a lot to do with
BIG TV EVANGELISM, the millions raised on TV for Godly causes as well as the scandals
has the Christian mindset completely off of the “fools” for Christ that like our Lord Jesus and His deciples
don’t have a glamourous calling.

When Jesus said: “Go into all of the world and preach the Gospel,”
He started with a command to take the Good News to our own lost communities.
Home missionaries, like foreign missionaries, have committed themselves to a lost world.
God calls those to stay here yet the places they go are much like going into distant lands
to bring the hope of Christ, just like going deep into the down and dirty of this world
we would never ever want to enter.
They go into new, hard to reach areas, and plow new ground, oftentimes in hostile settings.
When a crack head smokes no more, the thief steals no more and the blind now see,
yes THEN everyone rejoices and someone might notice.
But are you and I there for the work?
Are we there when the preacher cries because he has no gas to get to the next jail 100 miles away?
Are we there when our own missionaries in our own town are silently doing without?
Sadly we usually fail to help.
However, we DO have the opportunity to serve God, His Servants and the lost.
We can so easily help them by sending them Bibles to give, our gifts and our prayers.

Yes we all have the opportunity to go with them.
Are you interested in fulfulling our Lord’s Great Commission by raising funds
for Bibles for the “out there” servants to share with the hurting?
We all know God is the only hope and comfort that will truly help the seeking.
His Word will bring diliverence and a NEW BIRTH! Help send a Bible today.

will come into the fold so we can finally GO HOME!
Christian, provide Bibles to others because it was HIS WORD that saved you,

How blessed would you like to be? How rewarded Church body
can you bear to be? What better joy than knowing God Almighty

Tears streamed down my face as I read this beautiful article on praising kids with autism ..LOL can barely type now as they keep falling.  Thank you to Tammy, God Bless you for sharing your son with us, your life with us. Your a wonderful Mom with a wonderful child!  My own son is my hero who amazes me by his loving heart and strides accomplished in all he has been through and goes through. I am blessed with him, a precious gift of God so special in every way. Raising him is most difficult but most rewarding! My son is 8 and we struggle together with severe ADHD and highly functional broad spectum autism.
I have been working on my wholesale Bible website and new Bible blog non-stop for 3 days.  Let me tell ya, I would have been much better off had I read this first!  My son is the type who soaks up any kind of attention begging for more.  The more time I spend with him, play with him, teach him, or even disipline him, the more he hungers for it.  He just can’t get enough. So when I am working on projects that take more of my time than usual for a single Mom, self employed, online Bible distributor, well my boy becomes a wild child.   As I stopped to feed him, read instructions for his workbooks, or explore his room with him for a new twist of playing with his favorite toys,  Sam would grasp at ways to stall me from going back to my work.  The sheer knowledge that all too soon for him I would be back at it, engrossed in thought, staring at my laptop, typing away was just too much for him to handle.  I can’t count the times I fussed, asking him why he was misbehaving so much while I was trying to work AND help him too.  Had I done the same things but said much different things to him like you have mentioned we both would have been happier!  I am definitely going to write down a special praise Samuel list for extra busy work days.   • show much love and affection
  • be taught new things
  • build amazing lego creations
  • very imaginative things
  • express how they feel in words
  • try to control temper

        As a wholesale Bible distributor online since 2002 the happiest and most fulfilled moments have always been when helping someone else.  Especially so when we experience along with them when thier soul is deeply, forever touched by our Lord.   Whether supplying 10,000 low cost Bibles to a Ministry who is shipping Hope: His Word across the world or unknowingly planting a very small seed pehaps by a heart felt prayer with a hurting wife whose shares how her husband seems to moving further instead of closer to God as she on her knees tearfully prays daily for his salvation.   It is a joy to my soul when our Father is praised and how blessed  I am to come away feeling more encouraged than the person I felt led to encourage.   We serve such a MIGHTY, Awesome God!

       We hear many preach these days on giving and in return we will be blessed.  More often than not monetary gain of some sort is meant, yet those Spiritual blessings are where we can be most strengthened.  Reflect on those times. You know when your hearts swell up full and bursting with God’s goodness and a contagious smile suddenly is beaming too!   Now don’t get me wrong God certainly takes care of our physical needs, many times we are in great need and we certainly cannot outgive God, but those precious tender moments with our Beloved Saviour will never pass away like our physical needs will one day.   We will be around this old world til all who are His have heard His Word, till every single soul who has been given Him by our heavenly Father has finally been called unto Him by His Holy Spirit, til then remember those moments. Bask in those moments, may God bring them to mind at our darkest hours.   Always be ready to share Christ’s love,  a hug and a Bible with the lost  while being a comfort to our brothers and sisters  in Him.  No matter what may be going on with our own lives, good times or heartaches,  peace ALWAYS follows a Christian who gives of themselves in even the smallest way to God and to others.

     Say a prayer, share a verse or give out a Bible today.  This will NEVER pass away!
