Defending Bibles sent to Haiti or ANY hurricane or disaster hit hurting souls

I was in total disbeleif at how many people over at a blog on Sodapop have such bad things to say about Bibles being sent to Haiti.   The blog writer quoted an article he read that seriously hurt and flaberghasted me called “10 Things More Useful Than Solar-Powered Audio Bibles To Send To Haiti”     Sure all aid is needed, I support any and ALL types of giving but how can people who are so clueless about the Holy Bible, God , Jesus Christ, the comfort of His Truth, His Word, His Saving Grace have the cruelty to say that Bibles are unimportant to hurting bodies and souls that have been devastated?   I couldn’t help but wonder if these “mean” people attacking Christians giving Bibles, solar or otherwise have ever felt deep pain that nothing physical could truly relieve or comfort like God’s saving power and Holy Spirit does.
Compelled to defend Christians all over the world who have helped the Haitian people or ANYONE ever affected by tragedy,  I replied to some of them on two different occasions.
You should be able to click to go to the original blog. If your unable to, contact me, and I will send you a link.
I have copied below just a part of the posts, the original post I responded to that was degrading Bibles being sent is last at #4  so none of Budget Bibles readers would mistake that part as my own comments.

wow… has anyone showing no love here actually sent anything to Haiti? Even made a donation? I am in Louisiana and tho it pales dratistically in comparison, the people we visited in shelters after Katrina ASKED for and wanted BIBLES! People who had lost loved ones, pets, homes, lost EVERYTHING and had NOTHING could have asked for anything but they wanted a BIBLE! They needed hope and hugered for it. I saw non Christian faces filled with gloom and dispair light up eyes sparkling as they with tears in thier eyes opened a brand new Bible seeking peace and hope in a hopeless situation. I saw Momma’s who prefessed not knowing God, RUN with utter joy to show a husband or kid this new Bible. Man cannot live by bread alone but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God. We came into this world with nothing and we will leave with nothing… but those everlasting, eternal promises in His Word are eternal and will be true even after we have gone! PLUS… These electronic Bibles are very small as far as shipment size and are going to Christian Haitians, churches and pastors or anyone else who would like one. And not just the Bibles… but physical aid is given as well!!
To make matters worse the tent communities are being flooded again, so the aid already sent is being destroyed AGAIN. But a Bible is cherished and will get wet last, after everything else! Christian Ministries, Operation Blessings (I personally contacted them to see if they would bring along 2 cases of Bibles and got a flat NO!) along with literally 1000′s of Other large Christian organizitions as well as small churchs and individuals are not allowing Bibles to be shipped with the aid they are sending, allowing ONLY materials to build water wells and tents, clothes, medicine and food etc. The containers used could fit a case or two of Bibles no problem as many are headed that way even before they are filled up trying to get aid there as fast as possible. The thing is Bibles are being ASKED for … do some unbiased research before being so harsh.
Right now a young teenage boy from Florida has raised money to send several cases of haitian creole new testaments and hatian creole Kids Bible story books. (His family is putting each one in zip lock bags to help against the floods) Guess who is flying over there to deliver them from the USA? Dual citizen Haiti natives responding to REQUESTS for these Bibles! Our company MissionsBibles.com has helped supply these and donated some as well. 400 count! Praise GOD! Plus another 100 count last week with another group flying over there with the New testaments and other aid. A few weeks ago another fellow Christian purchased 2 cases of high dollar complete kids study Bibles and God got them there in less than 2 weeks, even though I shipped normal USPS Priority mail even in the midst of turmoil! Praise GOD!
Bibles are being sent NOT because we Christians are trying so hard to convert rather because the already converted WANT them.
Right after hurricane Katrina, Rita hit our home and business, all was a total loss… my ONLY comfort was God’s Word. In the midst of being homeless and no possessions left, God gave me peace, I was OK not having worldly needs or possesions (including months of contaminated water, no grocery or clothe stores open, no electricity, no gas stations, no communications to know if my family was dead or alive, not able to work so penniless not having gas to try to find red cross stations handing out military rations etc etc etc…but I was peaceful, I had my Bible! Christians need God. & Yes Christians ARE indeed sending medicine, clothes, tents, blankets, and even crews to help build water wells… actually 99. % of all Christian aid does NOT include Bibles… the 1% of us who are have been asked to do so. Christians are sending the most aid as well, and Christians were very much in Haiti BEFORE this disaster. Please know your facts before lashing out. PS, contact us through our website at www.missionsbibles.com if you would like to help us pay for already sent or to send more much requested Hatian creole Bibles (New testaments or kids story Bibles to Haiti. If you would like to send any other type of aid, we have connections in Port Au Prince that can distribute ANY thing. Faith Comes by Hearing agrees that the Haitian people are greatly in need of supplies, food, water, medications and more. The reason we cannot send anything other than audio Bibles is because our funding comes directly from our donors to produce audio Bibles. To use those funds for other supplies instead would be wrong. The reason we have partnered with organizations providing other needed supplies is to insure that all these people’s needs are indeed being met-physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Thanks so much for your help in highlighting the great needs of the Haitian people. Hopefully together we as a nation can make a difference there.

“10 Things More Useful Than Solar-Powered Audio Bibles To Send To Haiti

read this article: Earthquake survivors get solar powered Bibles.

‘AS international aid agencies rush food, water and medicine to Haiti’s earthquake victims, a US faith-based group is sending Bibles to Haitians in their hour of need.

    Not just any Bible.

These are solar-powered audible Bibles that can broadcast the holy scriptures in Haitian Creole to 300 people at a time.

Called the “Proclaimer,” the audio Bible delivers “digital quality” and is designed for “poor and illiterate people”, the Faith Comes By Hearing group said.

According to their website, the Proclaimer is “self-powered and can play the Bible in the jungle, desert or … even on the moon!”

The Albuquerque-based organisation said 600 of the devices were already on their way to Haiti.

It said it was responding to the Haitian crisis by “providing faith, hope and love through God’s Word in audio”.

With tens of thousands of Port-au-Prince residents living outdoors because their homes have collapsed or they fear aftershocks from last week’s quake, the audio Bible can bring them “hope and comfort that comes from knowing God has not forgotten them through this tragedy”, the group said.’

And I immediately thought ‘What a load of crock! I can think of so many things better to send than a crate of f**king Bibles!’

So, here is my list of ten things, in no particular order:

    1. People.
Even if untrained, helping hands are helping hands and people can be directed to aide survivors and aide-workers.

    2. Clean water.
Clean drinking water is a necessity in times like these, bottled water is already being shipped out, but you can never have too much.

    3. Food.
    Same as the water.

    4. Temporary shelters.
Tent’s, lean-too’s, even corrugated iron sheets – anything that can be used to create temporary shelter for the thousands of people now homeless.

    5. Medicine.
The survivors are going to need all the medical aide they can get.

    6. Mosquito nets.
    Self explanatory.

    7. Rescue equipment.
    Again, self explanatory.

    8. Money.
Given to any of the charities running in Haiti right now, money is always welcome and helps enormously.

    9. Water purification tablets.
For those whom clean water can’t get through to – prevents cholera and dysentry.

    10. Portable latrines.
Again, prevents cholera and dysentry, but not contaminating local ground water.

I’m sure people can think of more things.

I’m flabberghasted by the decision to send audio solar powered Bibles at a time when there are far more pressing needs than faith.

    • oh my science
ahahahha they are sending bibles, i feel sorry for the haitians even more so now “
